Pedometer Information

October 6, 2009by Henry Calhoun· Leave a Comment

Since it seems that we all are exercising more often, exercise gadgets are becoming extremely popular. Among those gadgets that have increased in popularity are pedometers. Pedometers are an inexpensive tool which main function is to track how far someone walks within a given period of time.

Pedometers are usually the size of a credit card or pager and dependent upon the specific type, can perform a variety of functions. In addition to tracking how far someone walks, they may also count steps, convert those steps into miles, and tell you how many calories have been burned. The more advanced systems will allow you to save your data for several days or weeks so you may track your improvement.

Despite its small size, the pedometer is a large motivator. Just knowing how far you walked on a particular day or the number of steps you have taken can give you that extra push to do more the next time. People who wear a pedometer often try to find ways to improve their results each day, even if it is just going a few more steps each day. This is done by taking the stairs instead of an elevator or walking one more time around the block, just to mention a couple of examples. No matter how you do it or what you do, it will all add up and increase the total for the day.

Which pedometer you choose be sure it is one to suit your needs or what it is you require it to do. Do you want to convert steps to miles or how many steps you have taken. Perhaps it is how many calories you burnt taking all those steps or all of the above. Another thing to keep in mind is that being expensive does not necessarily mean better.

It is important also to realize once you have purchased your pedometer it may take a bit of getting used to. You may have to practice a little with it, so it may get used to you as well as you used to it. It needs to know how long your stride is, the pace that you walk at, what part of your body is best to wear it on. Once these quirks are ironed out, it will be able to track your stride very accurately.

Now that you have your new pedometer set and ready to go, it is time to set some goals for yourself. If it has been awhile since you have exercised, it is important that you consult your physician first and take things slowly. Start with either a certain number of steps per day or a certain distance per day. Once you can reach that goal with ease, you can keep lengthening it to challenge yourself.

There are a variety of everyday things you can do that normally you did not think of. The first is to take the stairs versus the elevator or when you park your car do so a little further away than you normally would. Taking your sneakers with you so lunch time you can maybe take a little walk around your work building

The best way you can exercise is to put on a comfortable pair of sneakers and clip your pedometer on your shoe or waist and you are on your way. It is an inexpensive way and your pedometer can be the motivator for you in meeting the goal you set. So get your sneakers and pedometer and get walking!

Diet Review: The Cambridge Diet

September 30, 2009by Tad Stephenson· Leave a Comment

The Cambridge Diet is a very low calorie diet that is very popular in the United Kingdom. While this eating plan hasn’t caught on as heavily in the States, it still remains a viable option for the grossly overweight.

The Cambridge Diet is a weight loss plan that is designed with the dangerously overweight in mind. This is a very low calorie diet that is designed primarily to help the grossly overweight lose a lot of extra weight fast.

The Cambridge Diet eating plan is a tiered system that begins as a very low calorie diet of 450-650 calories a day that are all provided by specialty supplements designed to provide extra nutrients and vitamins to help make up for the lack of calories early on. After this initial very low calorie tier, dieters move upwards in calories from tier to tier to help provide enough nutrition while continuing weight loss.

Any dieter who is seriously looking at the Cambridge Diet needs to consider several things before committing to this eating pan. The first consideration is medical supervision. While this weight loss plan is used quite often in the UK, it is only done with proper supervision to make sure dieters remain healthy throughout the entire process.

Another consideration is how hard this diet can be to follow. Many dieters are going to have an extremely hard time sticking to a mere 450-650 calories a day. If you don’t think you can handle this, then this diet isn’t going to be able to help you because you won’t be able to follow it.

Several controversies still remain around this weight loss plan. Concerns remain around possible muscle loss, crashing metabolism, and the overall just lack of daily calories.

However there are plenty of defenders of this weight loss plan. The biggest positive is obvious: it’s a diet that has worked for thousands of morbidly obese individuals. That can’t be argued with.

While arguments over the Cambridge Diet may continue, it is an eating plan that will have its fans because of past success stories. For some morbidly obese dieters, this might be the weight loss plan they’ve been waiting for.

Using A Pedometer

September 26, 2009by Josh Proten· Leave a Comment

The pedometer is not a device we hear much about. In fact, it is conceivable that a lot of people who have had of the device may not know what it is for and how it works. The pedometer, also called a stepometer, is a device that measures the distance traveled, by either walking or running. The device measures the distance covered by the user by monitoring the motion of their hips. A pedometer however needs some form of manual calibration where there has to be a standard set for the approximate length of the human stride. The length does vary between the genders with the men at approximately 2.5ft and the women at 2.2 ft.

A pedometer is portable and can be attached to the waistband of the person wearing it. Other than that, it can just be ignored during the time it is worn. Since the calibrations necessary are already built into the device, the distance traveled for the day is easily calculated using the number of steps taken. Due to the fact that a pedometer doesn’t have to be monitored, it is a comfortable and hassle free way of collecting information on your activity.

The history of the pedometer goes back a long way. The invention of the device is credited to Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the US. He did not patent the idea and so it is unclear whether he designed it or just responsible for making it popular. The initial pedometer worked much like a pendulum. It was tied on the waist and collected readings as the person was walking or running. Similar inventions go back even further than that into the 15th century where roman soldiers used a similar device to ascertain how far they had walked. It is important to note however, the readings in these times were not as accurate as they are now.

There are many groups that can use a pedometer and one of them is doctors. This device lets doctors collect data on patients and that makes it easy to see how much effort a patient is putting into their required exercise program. For patients that need the daily exercise for health reasons, this information for doctors becomes even more important. Some of the pedometers available now can even post the collected data directly to a server where the doctor can directly access and monitor the patient’s progress.

Another reason for using the pedometer is simply exercise. Some people are using the pedometer to make their exercise routine more efficient. Using the pedometer, the user can be able to monitor his/her exercise program more closely. One can also be able to set realistic goals to increase their exercise threshold based on the information that they have collected using the device.

Pedometers can also be used to collect data for research, because they now are part of some GPS and GPRS capable devices which enable data to be posted online. There a few medical research companies that use pedometers to aid with studies on human behavior and their routines. This is usually a voluntary program and people can choose to participate or not.

Chunky Child

September 16, 2009by Raul Burks· Leave a Comment

Obesity in children is higher than it has ever been. More and more children are becoming diabetic. Also, many more are suffering from other serious health problems.

In order to lose weight a person must eat less and exercise more. It is very hard for people to stay motivated. And if it is hard for adults, you can expect that it is even harder for kids.

Kids don’t necessarily understand the negative health effects of being overweight. There are several ways that you can help your child lose weight. Just stick to the basics rather than getting into a complicated calorie counting diet.

As a parent you should just provide healthy and nutritional meals and snacks. You should also find ways for your child to get plenty of exercise. There are ways that this can be done without actually addressing it as exercise.

You should also find ways for your child to get lots of exercise. There are ways that this can be done without acknowledging that it is exercise. If you keep it fun, they will like.

You can’t expect your child not to overindulge if he sees you doing it. If your child is already overweight, you will have to make some changes to his diet. It is important that you keep an eye on what your child is eating at school too.

Most children don’t have to make huge and major changes to their diet but consider this for a minute. Is your child is gaining about 15 extra pounds annually? That is equal to about 150 calories per day.

This is just doing the math! It will indicate that one pound is equal to about 3500 calories. So, if your child eliminated one can of pop from his diet daily, that would equal up.

If your child gains about 15 kilos each year, that is equal to about 150 calories per day. Just do the calculations! They will indicate that a pound is equal to about 3500 calories.

So, what if your child removed a bottle of pop from his daily diet? That would equal up. The first battle that you must claim is stopping your child from putting on more weight.

Change from regular pop to none at all. Don?t allow your child to come home and the school to eat a sandwich or a bag of chips as a snack after school. This will put on weight very quickly.

Stay Fit With Music

September 10, 2009by Gregory Paul· Leave a Comment

Lets face it. One of the challenges of getting in shape is being consistent. Most of us find working out tedious and frankly it is hard to keep on when what youre doing is hard and repetitive. These days though, people have relied on one thing to make exercise really interesting and fun. While it is difficult to strain our muscles and sweat it out, it could be a very enjoyable activity if you can rock to the beat at the same time.

There are two ways that one can swing and groove to the music. You can bring out the giant speakers and the powerful woofers and have a blast. Unless you have soundproofing or better yet live alone in the wilderness, the neighbors wont be appreciative of that. Best way to have that rush privately would be through the use of head and earpieces. Technology has come a long way; now you can have the luxury of banging to the groove as you work out without disturbing others even when you’re with company.

There are lots of things to consider when choosing a perfect piece for you. I was quite surprised when I realized the intricacies of finding the right headphones for me. There are regular headphones, water resistant, sweat resistant even; I guess that would work very well when youre sweating it out. There are some earpieces that work in different temperatures; it works in temperatures as low as 10 degrees. Apparently they had winter sports athletes when they engineered this device. At the moment, a new feature has been produced. The sport optimized secure fit pieces. Earphones dropping from my ear while Im dancing to the groove have always been a problem.

You might want to consider the weight and color of an earphone. Are they the right one for your lifestyle? are they manly, or feminine? Would they go well with your clothes. Do they make you look good? Personally i wouldn’t care much but i know of someone who would.

The cable length is also important. Sometimes it might be too long that it gets caught up with just about anything. At times you get earphones with cables too short that it gets disconnected every time you move.

I am a certified music lover so audio is very important to me. I always make sure that it has the audio quality that I want. I prefer strong bass tones. I really like to get carried away to the tune so the volume has to be rocking, and there must be clear separation of the high and midtones.

The accessories could make or break the earphones. Rubber casings and magnetic clasps are big winners to some as these may come handy when you wanna get them in a hurry or when you are wearing gloves. I personally like those that come with clips so i can keep the cables away when i need to.

I have realized that despite the intricacies of finding the right equipment for me, I want them for a very special reason. I want to stay fit. I need music to keep me going, I rely on music in a very big way to keep me working out, to keep me healthy, and to keep me alive.

Stay fit without busting your budget with Home Exercise Equipment. You can be healthy even in the confines of your own home. Experience and enjoy the benefits of gym wellness without travelling to the gym through Cheap Strength Training Equipment
