			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There has been a steady increase in childhood obesity in the United States and it continues to baffle and confound professionals of every stripe. Obviously it doesn&#8217;t help matters that most foods sold in the US are packed full of high fructose corn syrup. But that is another issue we will not discuss today. What makes childhood obesity sad is that the kids who suffer from it seem like they haven&#8217;t been given a fair shot at life and that&#8217;s terrible. Kids with childhood obesity are forced to deal with emotional abuse in the form of taunts and harsh words from their peers and physical problems like constant joint and back pain, arthritis and sometimes even Type II diabetes. This is a sad state of affairs and we&#8217;ll explore it further in this article.</p>
<p>The child who is obese is on a crushing path heading right for awful health problems. One, for example, is fatty liver disease which is perhaps the number one type of disease that affects the liver. A long time ago people typically associated liver problems with liver sclerosis and alcoholism. Now, though, we understand that chronic obesity is a major factor in fatty liver disease. What will usually make the primary liver issues worse is that the metabolism of an obese person is terribly dysfunctional. The liver further helps people by sorting out toxins and anything else that is not good for your body. This, then, adds extra pressure to the other systems of children and teenagers who suffer from obesity. Research has been conducted everywhere that confirms that obstructive sleep apnea is a lot more widespread in children and teens who are obese. This is a condition that is quite serious because it actually blocks the child&#8217;s airway while he or she is sleeping. Overweight and obese kids will tend to snore, as well, however that can even be deceiving according to researchers. The reason for this snoring is sometimes OSA, obstructive sleep apnea. One possible approach to the problem is a procedure called an adenotonsillectomy which is meant to treat the condition specifically in young people.</p>
<p>When this is paired with the bullying and general social ostracizing they deal with at school and kids and teens who suffer from obesity are almost guaranteed to develop some sort of social dysfunction. It is also called &#8220;social disability&#8221; and goes hand in hand with depression, extreme feelings of unhappiness, etc. One natural result of all of this is super high stress levels which are known to be detrimental to both the brain and the body. This can cause some kids who suffer from obesity to start bullying other kids. Obviously this is the result of the kids letting their anger and frustration at being bullied themselves build up to dangerous levels. Early onset obesity is a real problem that affects even those who do not suffer from it. You should also look at it from the point of view of how much it costs society. Obese children are more likely to grow up to be obese adults and the costs associated with medical treatments, etc is astronomical. So this really is a social problem even though that is not at the forefront of awareness.</p>

<p>Food and dietary matters is all important for pregnant women, as they are eating for two (or perhaps more). Yet, it can often become a somewhat murky area. There&#8217;s so much misinformation floating around out there that the facts become confused with the myths. Yet, despite all the mystery surrounding food and pregnancy, experts suggest that drastic changes aren&#8217;t necessary.</p>
<p>It is recommended that pregnant women reduce their intake or avoid certain foods altogether. While it&#8217;s common knowledge, the nitty gritty details can be difficult to sort out. It&#8217;s hard to figure what, exactly, is bad and why.</p>
<p>The matter gets more convoluted when family and friends are so keen on offering their own tips and advice. Even strangers like to get in on the game and tell you what you should and shouldn&#8217;t eat, often without your solicitation. This extra information can become quite disconcerting. <p>Remember to wash your hands before and after touching meat.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t go crazy with sweets and other high fat food. Everything in moderation.</p>
<p>The FDA warns that pregnant and nursing women should avoid eating shark, swordfish, king mackerel and Tilefish in large amounts due to the amount of methyl mercury they contain. Methyl mercury is a toxic form of mercury that accumulates in fish.</p>
<p>Instead opt for canned fish or smaller ocean fish.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is now clearly established that Omega 3 polyunsaturated fats are good for our health. In numerous studies this has shown to be true. But where do you find good Omega 3 sources so that we can add extra Omega 3 fatty acids to our diet?</p>
<p>There are a number of Omega 3 fats including DHA, EPA and ALA. The first 2 of these are primarily found in marine based sources. Fish are very high in DHA and EPA and this is sourced from the algae that fish eat.</p>
<p>ALA is only found in plants.</p>
<p>The most important of these 3 polyunsaturated fats is DHA. This makes up a large of our brain and is important to our brain development</p>
<p>ALA is not as important to our bodies for one reason. It cannot be synthesised directly but to DHA by our bodies to be of use. The process converting the ALA to DHA is particularly inefficient and therefore taking plant-based Omega 3 sources rich in ALA is not as good for us as DHA sources and EPA sources such as fish oil.</p>
<p>For this reason the best dietary sources of Omega 3 fats is found in fish and fish based products. The American Heart Association recognises the benefits to our health of eating more fish however there is a conundrum. Fish is generally contaminated with toxins such as Mercury and this reason the FDA recommends against eating too much fish.</p>
<p>So it appears that we ought not eat fish daily despite the fact that fish is an excellent food source of Omega 3 fats. So if you want to get your health your healthy polyunsaturated fats daily the only safe way to do it is to take the best fish oil supplements that you can find. The best supplements are clean however it is also true to say that not all fish oil supplements are as good as others.</p>

<p>The most important Omega 3 fatty acid is DHA. Most Omega 3 capsules contain 18% EPA and 12% DHA, so for a 1000 mg capsule you&#8217;re getting 120 mg of DHA. The rest, apart from 180 mg of EPA, isn&#8217;t that important.</p>
